Hell’s Kitchen is two neighborhoods sharing a wall

One block is a five-story brick tenement walk-up from the 1900s: railroad apartments, plaster ceilings, the old Clinton bones. Two avenues west it’s a brand-new luxury tower with concrete cores, drywall partitions, and floor-to-ceiling glass. Same neighborhood, completely different walls, and the difference decides how a job gets done.

In the walk-ups you’re drilling into plaster-over-brick, which needs masonry bits, the right anchors, and a steady hand. That’s why TV mounting on brick or concrete runs from $160 instead of the $130 for drywall. In the new towers it’s usually drywall over concrete: cleaner to hang, but you want anchors rated for the load, not whatever came in the box. I bring both kits and pick on site.

The apartments here are small and turn over fast: lots of renters, restaurant and theater workers, quick move-ins and move-outs. So the work skews toward assembly, mounting, shelves, and damage-free jobs that keep a security deposit intact. If your building has a sign-in desk or work-hour rules (common in the West Side high-rises), tell me up front and I’ll book around them.

• TV mounting: from $130 on drywall, from $160 on brick or concrete. In these tenements it’s usually brick, and exposed brick is beautiful and unforgiving.
• Furniture assembly: dresser from $130, bed frame from $130, PAX wardrobe from $180. Small apartments live or die by storage, and I carry it up the walk-up stairs.
• Shelves and storage: floating shelf from $130, plus curtain rods and blinds. Going up, not out, is how you win a railroad flat.
• Window A/C install and removal: from $130 each way. A heavy unit, a prewar window, and a fifth-floor walk-up is not a solo job. Let it be mine.
• Drywall and plaster patch: patch and paint from $140, room touch-up from $150. Great for move-outs and covering last tenant’s anchor holes.
• Minor plumbing: running toilet from $130, faucet swap from $130. Old West Side valves get gentle hands.

How booking works

Text or email me photos: the brick wall, the flat-pack, the A/C, whatever it is. I answer personally, not through a dispatcher, with a flat price and open slots. Evenings and Sundays until 10pm are on the table, which is the whole point in a neighborhood of restaurant and theater workers home only after the dinner rush and the last curtain. If your building needs a sign-in or has set work hours (near-universal in the new West Side towers), send me that too and I’ll plan around it.

On the day I show up on time, protect the floors, do the work we agreed at the price we agreed, and clean up and clear out before your shift or your curtain. Cleanup’s included, always. Need it fast?
